| These photographs not only document different sculptures of Mademoiselle Pogany, but they are independent creative statements on the theme of portraiture. However, unlike the three dimensional portraits, these new variations do not change with the alterations of light. Each presents a single atmospheric moment.
Stepping back and looking towards the northern end of the Main Gallery, the spectator can compare the three photographic versions with the profile of the sculpture of Mademoiselle Pogany III (n. 16). As the light in this gallery changes and is accentuated by the reflections from the water pool, the contrast between photography and direct perception could not be greater [see also the photographs of Mademoiselle Pogany (n. 31 and 45) in the Lower Gallery]. |
