| The composition of Standpoint incorporates not only the two steel plates of the sculpture but also their architectural surroundings. To remain standing, the two slabs press on each other and on the gallery’s floor and walls. The artist determines the sculpture’s form, but he depends on architecture and gravity to complete the work. As Serra points out, “The apparent potential for disorder, for movement, endows the structure with a quality outside of its physical or relational definition.”**
